Emily Green

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

    Biography

My name is Emily, and I’m an RN/IBCLC. I graduated from University of Maryland School of Nursing in 2019, and over the past 5 years I have done a mix of Emergency Room nursing (pediatrics and adults) and Lactation—an unusual combo, but it’s been a privilege to work with folks at all stages of life.

My path to becoming an IBCLC started when I was a brand new Pediatric ER nurse—I noticed that while we were well equipped to care for sick infants in the ER, nursing and medical staff had a significant gap in breastfeeding knowledge. I wanted to close that gap! I started to learn about lactation by shadowing IBCLC’s in different settings, and then completed UC San Diego’s Lactation Consultant certification program. I’ve been working in Lactation since 2020, and I have been certified since 2022. My favorite part of this work is removing the shame around breastfeeding challenges and celebrating the small victories. Outside of LATCH, I spend a lot of time weightlifting, learning about new things (usually in the form of a podcast), and most recently, learning to play Roller Derby! I am excited to be able to support this community and to keep learning from the team at LATCH.
